If in the interiors of our grandparents’ houses predominated the lime in shades of blue, varnish or yellow straw, nowadays the range of finishes for the walls has become more and more diverse, in recent years, appearing on the market not only ingenious materials, but also very resistant. . Even the walls of the bathrooms now support many more finishing options, replacing the usual tile with new, revolutionary materials.

In today’s article, we will review the main categories of materials used, in contemporary arrangements, to finish the interior walls.

 1. The wallpaper, in addition to its innovative technical properties and the wide variety of materials from which it can be manufactured (paper, vinyl, silk, other textile and vegetable fibers, glass fiber, etc.), it is highly appreciated for the elegance and uniqueness of the design that can be created in any room. Among the novelties in the field, there is also the moisture resistant wallpaper, recommended also in the bathroom. Whether we are talking about an initial arrangement of a space or just a redecoration, to obtain a strong visual impact, but also to make the walls look perfectly finished for as long as possible, the wallpaper is a product that fits the interior design of homes, office spaces or commercial.

 2. In addition to the classic wallpaper, presented in the form of rollers, which stick with a special adhesive on the ceilings and walls, there has appeared on the market of finishing materials a less known variant in us in the country, called liquid wallpaper. This product is applied in a wet state (hence the name), roughly similar to decorative plaster. Its fascinating appearance is the result of the texture composed of cellulose and аdеzіv fibers that contain cotton as it is made of silk, dyes and elastics, such as wood chips, mites or even of this texture. This type of finish is marketed as an dry mixture or a рrераrаtе solution, to which water is added, and it is applied directly to the chosen surface, using a spatula.

 3. Another novelty in the finishing of the interior walls is the Halltex insulation panel system, which includes within the same product a building material, a product of sound and thermal insulation and, last but not least, an original decorative finish. The Halltex panel is similar to a porous plywood, in which the pine wood fibers are fixed with lignin, a wood binder, all the materials used being one hundred percent natural and environmentally friendly. The insulating panel presents real advantages related to the pre- and post-installation times and costs, which are more than satisfactory: the installation of the panels is easy, in a very short time, avoiding the dirt and dust characteristic of the renovation works, and the thermal properties reduce considerably the costs necessary to reach an optimum indoor temperature.

 4. Among the most popular wall decoration materials are the lime and the decorative finishes (assimilated to the decorative plaster), which have become increasingly appreciated, lately, also in our country. These are a combination of innovative structures that offer elegance and comfort, with a very important role in the aesthetics of the interior, contributing significantly to the final image of the rooms. Thanks to the diversity of textures and the chromatic variety, the decorative finishes have the role of invigorating the design of a room, personalizing it with boldness and elegance in classic or modern styles, as well.

 5. An artifice for interior design is also the washable paint with “writing board” effect or “whiteboard”.  This type of finish can be applied to almost any substrate, very good adhesion, not only for walls, but also for glossy surfaces, such as appliances or glass, including furniture in PAL or for decorating other objects in the house. Writing board, classic or whiteboard, is very useful for children’s rooms or playgrounds, as well as in office, meeting or training rooms, transforming walls, doors or other surfaces into interactive work areas, for more good communication and free expression within the teams.
