Most of the time, when we are going to build or arrange our house, we only think about the construction site that will follow in our life and how long it will take until it is ready for housing. The renovation works can be a real headache for the owners, especially when they do not have planned work and they also work with less skilled craftsmen, more tangled than helpful.
Precisely because we know how stressful this period can be, we thought to guide you to a few steps that will lead you to a happy ending for the whole family.
1.Always, between a point A and a point B on a map there are more possibilities for connection: shorter or longer roads, more straight or winding, easier or more difficult depending on the conditions of each route. In order to determine which is the best way to go, with the best ratio between length, duration and degree of difficulty, you must have some travel experience, respectively on construction site, in our case. There is a certain order in which the renovation / arrangement works must be carried out, as each steps requires certain conditions to be met and involves certain completion times. A more detailed plan of the steps, in natural chronological order, is similar to a map and we guide ourselves to move, without wandering, between points A (beginning of the project) and B (completion of the arrangement).
2.Now is the time to “arm yourself” with the best specialists in the field of interior design, then also in construction and proper installation, sanitary, thermal and electrical installations, etc., with which to make and follow this plan between points A and B, step by step, until the completion. Although it may seem cheaper to call on some acquaintance or a neighbor whom you have heard is good in his job, a specialized firm with experience in its field can offer more benefits throughout the entire project, such as meeting the deadline established contractually, compliance with the costs calculated in the initial estimate, the continuity of works regardless of the periods of leave, personal or health problems of an employee, etc.
3.As mentioned in point 1, when we go on the road it is assumed that we know where we want to reach, respectively in point B. Therefore, we should know what the final image of our layout looks like, to which we will go along with the specialists we have hired in this regard. Therefore, we will need a detailed project both aesthetically, as a final visual format, as well as functional, with technical and execution details, with the help of which the desired design can be implemented. For this, it is necessary that, before starting the concrete work on the constructio site, to allocate the initial time and energy towards the design along with a team of architects and interior designers.
4.Once it is established very clearly what B means and what it looks like, the final point of our trip, the general tendency is to go on the route, that is to start the works. Attention: haste makes waste! To reach any destination, we must first see where we are, where point A is located, starting point, respectively as it looks and in what concrete state is the location to be arranged / renovated. A very detailed analysis of the space, from a technical point of view, to take into account from the beginning all its shortcomings will save us, subsequently, of a lot of headaches, delays and additional costs. It is healthier to detect less visible problems now, but that will cause discomfort later, from the level of an existing joinery, of old sanitary or electrical installations, defective or incorrectly executed initially, with the construction. This stage, in conjunction with the previous one, when the final form of the project was obtained, is useful for estimating the level of complexity of the arrangement, the duration and the succession of the operations, the necessary materials and the costs involved. In other words, it is only after this step that the most detailed and correct map can be drawn up, which will lead us to the long-desired moment of completing the arrangement and relocation to the new house.
5.Do not hurry the steps, do not skip certain steps and do not terrorize the service providers to go over the head, just to meet the deadline for the new house party or Christmas, Easter, children’s school start etc. Agains, haste makes waste! This time, in fact, because the carrying out of certain technical operations requires strict times, which guarantees the correctness and the durability of the works. And here we refer to both the design stages and the construction or finishing stages. The price of non-observance of working time or the materials will be paid only by the beneficiary, when subsequent problems will arise, results of the initial rush, problems that will require costly repairs, nerves and time lost by him.
6.And if we still get to the part related to patience and time, we still recommend: at all the delivery times of the products and the provision of the contracted services, take your reserve time margins, for unforeseen situations, delays caused by objective reasons, holidays and days off that can get you over your head. It is preferable to go all unexpectedly well and to finish before the extended term you set by the above method, than to exceed the deadline and become stressed by delays.
7.Don’t choose materials just by price! And here we refer to the lowest price, but also to the highest price. A good material is clear that it will not have the best price compared to the cheapest on the market, but its quality will not be as questionable as that of the lowest price. It is ideal to choose the materials that respect the best price / quality ratio and to decide where it is necessary to use high quality products, to avoid unwanted surprises during their use, and where to make a small one discount and use a similar range with much lower price, not being vital products as important. Also, it is not justified to invest in very expensive materials and products, whose quality is not significantly higher than those with much lower prices, so that you will be stressed whenever your child wants to color on the sofa in the living room or you have guests and they brought a red wine to the table.
8.Another recommendation regarding the products used in the arrangement, try to get as much out of the things as you used to before moving to the new house. Most of the time, refurbishing and repairing old furniture can cost a lot more than buying new ones, in the current trend and perfectly integrated with the chosen design. Of course, the exception is the collection pieces, true decorative jewelry, whose value increases with their age. However, we did not refer to this category, but we were only sending you an alarm signal related to the inefficiency of dismantling and reassembling old furniture, already used for a certain number of years, which will not provide you with aesthetic comfort, but also practical comfort in your new home. Also consider the possibility of redeeming these objects with the sale of the former home, if necessary, or simply before moving to the new house, designed entirely for the present moment.
9.Another stress factor, which can be avoided from the beginning, is living on the construction site, from a more advanced moment of the works. This will determine, in addition to the obvious discomfort of dust, noise and the lack of decent living conditions, a permanent rush of operations, in the desire to “escape” from the construction site. As we pointed out at some of the above points, haste makes waste, so our recommendation is to find a home where you can stay until you move, cleanly, to the new house. As solutions worth considering, mention the possibility of offering a discount when selling the apartment you lived in, for the acceptance by the buyers of a period of residence until the completion of the new home, or renting an apartment, for the same length of time.
10. Do not leave the final details “for later”! From our experience, both as designers and as beneficiaries, we know that unfinished things in their time are likely to stay that way for a long time or even forever. And these details, seemingly insignificant, make the difference in any interior design. Decorations placed exactly in their place, as provided in the project, carefully executed finishes, up to the most detail, corrections where it will inevitably be needed, placing all things in pre-arranged cabinets and storage spaces, disappearing as quickly as possible moving boxes, perfect cleaning before placing furniture, carpets and drapes, as well as all the items that can store a lot of dust, after a while showing dirty and tangled, all these details will make your move not just tiresome, but also pleasant. After all, let’s not forget that at this point you already see your dream with your eyes!
There is certainly a lot to be said, but we would be extremely happy if you took into account even these 10 tips that will make your life easier throughout your arrangement.
